BOLD Summit Day 2: Internal Alignment for Growth

Wondering just what it is you’ll be learning at the BOLD Summit this year? Look no further! Here is a rundown of some of the topics we’ll be covering during the most intense two days of business development you’ve ever seen. Your time is valuable so it has to be high impact!

Day two kicks off with the third of our BOLD Masters, the inimitable Martyn Lawrence-Bullard. Beyond the notoriety of his design firm, Martyn is also known for his fabulous line of products including furniture, fabric, flooring, fragrances, and soon to be fashion and jewelry. He will share with attendees the keys to his success in a candid Q&A with Julia Molloy.

Next we dive into a products and licensing panel moderated by Natalie Norcross, founder of A Design Partnership. This panel features Crans Baldwin, who will be giving a presentation later in the day on how to navigate and adapt your business to your strategic advantage. Crans will share with us his insights into the marketplace as it is today, and offer options and solutions for designers seeking to grow, adapt, and differentiate their businesses in today’s challenging business climate.

Our Keynote Speaker Keith Granet will then present on licensing contracts and important strategic aspects of brand extension. He will help you to understand what milestones need to be met before launching a furniture line or licensing deal. Keith will also introduce a groundbreaking new tool that creates efficiency in your design process. This will be followed by BOLD Summit Founder Julia Molloy’s presentation on company structure and workflow.

Following lunch, we will hear from Crans Baldwin and Randy Fiser, chief executive officer of ASID. Dedicated to advancing community and economic development, he brings to his role a unique point of view about the capacity of design to make a positive impact on human health, well-being, and productivity. Randy is releasing new information on evidence based design that you can consider incorporating into your business offering.

Our final panel for the Summit will be on blogging, technology, and social media and how to make them work for you. Featured on this panel will be Anna Brockway, the chief curator from Chairish, and Mat Sanders from MyDomaine. Afterwards, you can join some free-form roundtable discussions with the experts featured over the two days of the Summit. Lastly, we will be treated to a summation by Chris Ramey, president of Affluent Insights and one of the most highly regarded experts in the luxury segment.

BOLD Summit Attendee, Daleet Spector of Daleet Spector Design

Daleet has more than twelve years of experience designing residential and commercial interiors. She grew up in Los Angeles, but her heritage stems from Latin America. Summer vacations were spent in Venezuela visiting her grandparents – these experiences left a lasting impression and are still a source of inspiration for much of her work. Daleet is known for her clean lines and relaxed, uncomplicated spaces. Often using iconic modern pieces, she also likes mixing styles and throwing in unexpected elements; all the while remaining true to the integrity of existing architecture.

Prior to turning her focus to interior design, Daleet founded and operated CityYard, a company that designed and developed home accessories with an urban garden twist. Her products were covered widely in publications such as InStyle, Coastal Living, The Washington Post, and Entrepreneur and sold in over 500 stores across the U.S. including retailers like Pottery Barn and Urban Outfitters. BOLD Summit Day 1: External Alignment for Growth

Wondering just what it is you’ll be learning at the BOLD Summit this year? Look no further! Here is a rundown of some of the topics we’ll be covering during the most intense two days of business development you’ve ever seen. Your time is valuable so it has to be high impact!

After an introduction by Julia Molloy, the owner of the BOLD Summit, we’ll start the day with our first BOLD Master, Kelly Hoppen MBE. In a Q&A session with Julia, Kelly will tell us all about the keys to her success and how she grew her business into an international powerhouse.

Next on the list is the founder of the Business of Design Summit, David Shepherd with his hands-on Action Map workshop. David has developed a process that helps the small business owner to clarify goals, focus strategy, and then identify the few critical learning and growth objectives that will effectively achieve those goals. It is progress on the learning and growth objectives that need to be measured, not accounting data. (Yes, he’ll be declaring “the end of accounting!”)

Kim Kuhteubl’s presentation “Tiny Tribe, Big Influence” is going to walk you through the process of identifying your most authentic message and develop a strategy for visibility and branding that will attract more of your ideal clients, make your brand more attractive to the media and align with the lifestyle you are striving for.

After lunch, sit down with our second BOLD Master, Joan Behnke, called “The Billionaire Whisperer” by Forbes magazine. Joan will share the decisions and techniques that have helped her build her business. Later in the day you’ll be able to join her for an intimate roundtable discussion — but sign up now, because Joan’s group is filling up fast!

Following this Q&A session, we will be presenting two panels that will provide all the information you need to get your work published. The first, “Think Like an Editor”, will be moderated by PR professional Barbara Pressman and feature editors from several prestigious interior design magazines. Afterwards, join renowned photographers Laura Hull and Victoria Pearson for “Photos and Points of View” where they will discuss exactly how photographing your work affects your likelihood of being published.

After a snack and sponsor showcase, we’ll head into our first roundtable sessions and portfolio reviews with the aforementioned editors. We’ll end the day with the presentation of our BOLD Masters awards. If you haven’t already signed up for our exclusive BOLD Masters Dinner at the Piazza de Liberace, now is the time to do it! There are only six slots left for this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

BOLD Master Joan Behnke, the Billionaire Whisperer

joanbehnke

In 2013, Forbes Magazine called Joan Behnke the “Billionaire Whisperer.” Her first projects as a designer included the estates of royalty: the palatial homes of the Saudi royal family. Joan started her own firm in 1999 and now it has grown to international acclaim with projects from coast to coast in the United States and all over the world. She is well-known not only for the 20,000+ square feet homes she works on but also for working intimately with her clients to transform the spaces they inhabit into a profound opportunity for self-expression.

Joan approaches her projects with an eye toward one-of-a-kind finds, whether that means collaborating with craftspeople on custom furnishings or sourcing antiques worldwide. When she was interviewed by Robb Report, Joan said that one of her greatest strengths as a designer was balance. “I know when to use restraint, which can sometimes mean advising a client not to put five TVs in the master bath.”

Thomas Barrack, billionaire real estate investor and longtime client of Joan sang her praises to Forbes. “I don’t view her as a decorator; she is a cultural scientist. She will research little, narrow, unknown tunnels of history on a particular project and then start drilling down. She doesn’t just do research of the period; she has contacts all over the world who help her maneuver through identifying objects and materials.”

BOLD Summit Attendee, Kim Nadel

Kim Nadel is an award-winning, certified interior designer and LEED Accredited Professional specializing in interiors that offer relaxed, inspired coastal living. Originally from Montreal, Nadel’s career took off in New York where she worked on projects including The Millennium Tower—the city’s first green condominium high-rise, the Ritz Carlton Penthouse, and the flow of space for Aveda salons nationwide.

In 1999, Hospitality Design named her as one of “The Industry 20: Leaders In Innovation & Influence”.  Kim’s design style, which incorporates the principles of Vastu, a holistic design approach, is highlighted in Kathleen Cox’s latest book, Space Matters. Kim’s broad knowledge and creative edge allow her to work within a diverse range of creative projects that promote eco-luxurious living.

Constantly innovating, Kim researches and incorporates the use of best-in-class building and sustainable design strategies with the goal of creating a non-toxic, healthy and efficient environment. Her collaborative approach brings accomplished and skilled artisans to every project. Now based in Encinitas California, Kim’s coastal home and design studio, “119 Living Studio”, was selected as one of twelve new homes featured on the 2012 Dwell Modern Home Tour.
